Trent McCarthy - Greens councillor

Trent McCarthy is the first Greens Councillor in Darebin.  He was elected in November 2008 to represent Rucker ward (covering Northcote, Thornbury, Fairfield and Alphington).

Throughout his term, Trent has strongly advocated for environmentally responsible planning and greater community participation in Council decision-making.

Trent has been a leading voice for a range of Darebin Council initiatives, including:

  • Community Climate Change Action Plan (including a community-wide target to achieve zero emissions by 2020)
  • Climate Change & Peak Oil Adaptation Plan (the first in Australia)
  • Improved kindergarten and childcare services
  • Reduced speed limits in local neighbourhoods
  • Better footpaths, bikepaths, parks and playgrounds
  • Greater investment in our local shopping strips
  • Practical support for local artists and our culturally diverse community
