On Monday June 6, a diverse range of local groups and residents gathered in an all-day vigil, outside Martin Ferguson's electoral office, to celebrate World Environment Day, and to call on Martin Ferguson, as our current federal parliamentary representative, and as Minister for Energy and Resources, to do better in a whole lot of areas connected with the environment.

We heard speakers, most of them local residents from Darebin, from the following community groups:

  • Darebin Climate Action Now (Jane Morton)
  • Doctors for the Environment (Merryn Redenbach)
  • The Darebin Japanese Women’s Group (Mikoto)
  • Psychology for a Safe Climate (Carol Ride)
  • Save the Kimberley, James Price Point (Jeanne Brown)
  • Japanese for Peace (Kaz and Tomo)
  • The Darebin Greens (Alex Bhathal)
  • The Climate Action Centre (David Spratt)
  • Groundswell (Janet Rice)
  • A Community Choir from Thornbury
  • Friends of the Earth – Anti Nuclear and Clean Energy Collective (Jim Green)
  • Beyond Zero Emissions (David Perry)
  • Greg Barber MLC (Northern Metropolitan)

Thanks to everyone for coming.  If anyone would like copies of speeches from the day, please let us know on the website contacts.
