Tell Ferguson to rethink the Energy White Paper

Posted on Thu 15th Dec 2011

Martin Ferguson, Minister for Resources and Energy and our local member for Batman released the Draft Energy White Paper on Tuesday this week.

Unfortunately, but perhaps not surprisingly the draft White Paper is a blast from the past, outlining a 'business as usual' future for Australia of continued dependence on coal, gas and uranium, instead of the clean energy future most Australians want.

Honk for Climate Action - Friday 12th August

Posted on Thu 11th Aug 2011

The Darebin Greens held a 'honk for climate action' event during evening peak hour, as part of the Yes to Climate Action Community Fortnight of Action in early August.

We held up signs outside Martin Ferguson's electoral office at 159 High St, Preston, and were rewarded with a 'honk rate' amongst passing traffic of at least 50%, and had a wonderful time as the sun set over Preston.

Darebin Greens welcome carbon price agreement

Posted on Mon 11th Jul 2011

The Darebin Greens strongly welcomes the announcement of a climate action agreement that will put a $23 per tonne price on carbon pollution (as was first proposed by the Greens), support householders and vulnerable communities, and invest billions of dollars in clean, renewable energy.

Show your support for the carbon price package

This package, which the Greens have helped shape, is the first vital step towards tackling the climate crisis, modernising the Australian economy and building a cleaner, healthier, more secure Australia for all of us.

Darebin is a community that supports strong action…

Tell the Government you support the carbon price package

Posted on Fri 10th Jun 2011

Let the Government know you support a strong price on pollution that will reduce Australia's emissions, drive investment in renewable energy and ensure low income households and vulnerable communities are supported.

Photos available from the Martin, we can do better - Community vigil, 6 June

Posted on Thu 2nd Jun 2011

On Monday June 6, a diverse range of local groups and residents gathered in an all-day vigil, outside Martin Ferguson's electoral office, to celebrate World Environment Day, and to call on Martin Ferguson, as our current federal parliamentary representative, and as Minister for Energy and Resources, to do better in a whole lot of areas connected with the environment.

We heard speakers, most of them local residents from Darebin, from the following community groups:

  • Darebin Climate Action Now (Jane Morton)
  • Doctors for the Environment (Merryn Redenbach)
  • The Darebin Japanese Women’s Group (Mikoto)
  • Psychology…

Darebin Greens make front page of the Age - well our banner did

Posted on Fri 27th May 2011

On World Environment Day, Sunday 5 June, thousands of people from all over Australia rallied to say yes to action on climate change.  The Darebin Greens were amongst the crowds in Melbourne, and our daggy old banner ended up on the front page coverage of the rally the next day.
