The Greens is a political party with a difference. The party is structured so that 'grass-roots' members have real power to determine policy, to shape campaigns, to administer the organisation, to run for public office and to vote in pre-selections.
The Greens are also unusual because we not just concerned with elections; we run ongoing campaigns on social justice, industrial relations, health, human rights and the environment.
Greens campaigns are managed and funded almost entirely by local volunteers. Our candidates, campaign managers and organisers are all volunteers, and the majority of our campaign funds – for leaflets, ads and posters – are raised at local events.
Our members and supporters are renowned for being the most active and involved in Australian politics and together, we are really starting to make a difference.
There are lots of ways you can get involved:
The Darebin Greens meet on the first Wednesday of every month, 6.30-8.30pm at Human Powered Cycles Café, 562 High St, Thornbury.
Non-members are welcome to attend one meeting as an observer before joining, if they email the Secretary on darebinbranch@vic.greens.org.au beforehand.
